Abstract

IMPROVEMENT OF MOTHER’S KNOWLEDGE ABOUT THE
TREATMENT OF UMBILICAL CORD ON NEWBORN BABY
THROUGH BOOKLET MEDIA

SUMMARY
Background; Newborn baby is very risky to be affected by the infection which
caused by some problems. One of the infections that often occur to the
newborn baby is caused because of a problematic umbilical cord. The number
of the occurrence of the infection on newborn baby in Indonesia ranges from
24% up to 34%, and this is the second cause of death after asphyxsia
neonatorum which ranges from 49% up to 60%. Most of the infections on
newborn baby is tetanus neonatorum, because cutting with non-sterile tools,
and because of the proper treatment of umbilical cord. The mother’s
knowledge and demeanor in doing the treatment of umbilical cord is still
many which are not precise, this is because of mother has not been exposed to
information on how to do the umbilical cord treatment properly. Method; The
media which used in improving the mother’s knowledge about the umbilical
cord treatment on newborn baby is booklet. Result; the booklet that produced
is for improving the mother’s knowledge about the umbilical cord treatment of
newborn baby. Conclusion; the booklet of the umbilical cord treatment on
newborn baby can be used by the society and especially for the mother’s as
the source of information in doing the umbilical treatment of newborn baby
properly.
